Waccamaw Community Hospital, located 22 miles north of Georgetown in the fast-growing Murrells Inlet area, is the newest member of the Georgeotwn Hospital System family. Opened in November 2002, this facility includes 82 inpatient beds as well as 29 beds in an acute physical rehabilitation center. Like GMH, Waccamaw Community Hospital is operated as a private not-for-profit organization. Both facilities have 24-hour emergency departments.
